Provisional Immigration Statuses
Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is assigned with strict requirements that must all be met. It is designated and approved for certain countries with registration dates for El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan. This status is due to conditions in those countries that temporarily prevent their citizens from returning safely. USCIS may grant TPS to eligible nationals of certain countries (or parts of those countries) who are already in the United States. Eligible individuals without nationality who last resided in the designated country may also obtain TPS.
